Just in case

Neat little box of matches which will light in pretty rough conditions. They stay alight long enough to light even the most recalcitrant stove or fire. Tucked away in my "Just in case" this pack could make all the difference. I may never use them in earnest - but at this price foolish not to have them.

Little bit odd.

what's the purpose of these matches? They are ina waterproof plastic container to keep them dry and they have a huge combustible head to give you the best chance of maintaining a flame while trying to get kindling alight right? OK. So what the HECK is the point of putting the striker on the outside where it will get wet ???????? Surely you can come up with a better plan than that ? :s

A great camping stove.

I've just unwrpped this camping stove and have given a quick run, so this is just an initial opion of how it works, but it looks very promising.Pros: works great, robust, compact design, toast feature!Cons: None reallyThis really does seem like a great camping stove. The first thing you notice is the compact design. It looks very well built. The blue metalwork and the clever way the lid closes are a nice touch.It comes with a hose and two clips, but you will need to buy a regulator to connect it to your gas bottle. It all connects quite easily. The wind protectors do look like the will be pretty effective as they really shelter the burners on three sides. Allthough I haven't tried this in the wind myself the deflectors seem simmilar to the Coleman ones that work very well.The spark button works great and lights the burners with no trouble. The burners produce a nice even flame, and their appears to be a good level of control of the burner with the knob. If anything, I would have hoped that the burners produce a somewhat larger flame, but they boiled 1 lter of water in less than the quoted 7 minutes. This stove produces the equivlent of 5300w of heat, so it has not trouble cooking well.The toast/grill feature works surprisingly well and allows you to toast two slices of bread (one side at a time) fairly quickly and evenly.This two burner stove does cost more than the others on the market, but it really is much better. I would definately reccomend this camping stove.

Better windshield than Camping Chef and lighter

This is an updated version of the Camping Chef.It has better windshields and is lighter.On the minus side, it is slightly lower powered though this brings it slightly more in line with being able to use a 907 bottle.My comments are as for Camping Chef apart from this.It has a fixed simmer stop whch is very useful. Two full size burners, which may or may not be useful as sometimes a slow burner is a good idea. It would probably have been better if one burner was more powerful (say 2500 watts) and one less powerful (say 1500watts) rather than having 2 x 2000 watt burners. It also has a grill.It has press button ignition.I would recommend not using a Campingaz 907 container with this stove as using all three burners is inhibited by the maximum gas take off rate of the container. Better go for a Calor Gas 4.5kg and 109 regulator or even better, especially in winter, a 3.9Kg propane with POL105 regulator.

Efficient camping stove

I had the opportunity to really test it out when having our kitchen replaced. we were able to cook full meals on the two burners for the family, took a little bit of extra organisation, but cooked food as quickly and cleanly as other cookers. The grill is not very powerful , hence the 4 star rating, took ages for toast to go brown, but not an issue for us. You can also place toast on the surface of the grill between the hob burners. The grill is sturdy when assembled. Instant ignition button is a bonus to us. One of the plastic holding clasps that lock it shut was broken when it arrived, but as we got this at reduced price, we feel we can live with that as it in no way affects the functioning of the grill. I would recommend this product to others.

Product Description

The Solo Stove is a natural convection inverted downgas gasifer stove that incorporates a secondary combustion for a more efficient and cleaner burn. The bottom vents allow air to enter and flow up the bottom of the grate to feed the primary combustion, a top down smolder. In addition, air entering in from the bottom vents heats up within the inner wall and rises up and out the top firebox vents causing a secondary combustion at the top of the stove. The Solo Stove actually cooks the smoke out of the wood and then burns the smoke not once, but twice! This technique makes for a cleaner burn which means less smoke and also allows the stove to burn more efficiently.

Forget the Fuel: Our stoves cook your meals with nothing but the twigs you collect on your journey, eliminating the need for heavy, expensive, polluting petroleum gas. It's easy to light, fast to boil and clean to use.

Gasify your Wood: A unique gasification and secondary combustion process lets our stoves achieve a highly efficient and more complete burn. This means you'll use fewer twigs to achieve a boil. It also means less smoke while cooking.

Travel Lighter: The Solo Stove only weighs 250g and eliminates the need to carry fuel canisters - a great way to lighten your load. It also nests inside most pots leaving you with more space in your pack.

A fantastic stove for backpacking and cyclotouring, lightweight, small enough to fit inside many cooking pots and of course the biggest advantage is free fuel.This stove is extremely well made and should outlive me, a must buy for any outdoorsperson, prepper and will also be handy in a zombie apocalypse (well you never know ;o) ..... A much loved addition to my kit

excellent kit,light & durable comes in its own stuff sack, has worked well with wood and meth's ,used a wind sheild as well,might stick to using meth's,it fits inside an evernew pasta pot:M 1.0ltr easy to clean, ideal for fishing and back packing

As soon as you open the box you want to go and find some sticks and light up the fire. Boiling a kettle has never been so much fun. Very good quality product, and will be in my rucksack if only as an emergency item.

The Ghillie Kettle will boil water in 6-10 minutes for safe drinking or warm drinks.

How It Works: .
Water is poured into the Ghillies spout.
Add the whistle cap.
Start a small fire with twigs in the firepan (or on the ground) and place the Ghillie on top.
Once flames rise through the middle of the chimney, simply drop more twigs down the chimney or feed from the side hole in the fire pan.
When the whistle blows the water is boiled!
Available cooking accessories can convert the Ghillie into an outdoor stove.

There is little difference between this and the Kelly kettle. It came efficiently andhas not leaked once.I expect it to last for 10 years! My last kettle did 9 and it wasn,t anodized.

Product Description

We are delighted to be stocking this superb new high-quality, lightweight, compact - and ingenious - woodgas stove.

Wood-gas stoves create conditions where primary air partially combusts wood gas, then inject pre-heated air into the top of the combustion chamber to mix with the remaining smoke, resulting in a very hot, clean burn and quick and easy lighting.

This high-performance woodgas stove offers all the benefits you would expect: easy to light, very economical and clean-burning. Its three-part design means that you benefit from the stability of a footprint as large as some larger models (like the WoodGas LE and XL), as well as the space-saving compactness of its slightly smaller brothers (like the Bushbuddy and Bushcooker).

This is a 'passive-flow' woodgas stove, meaning the secondary air holes are powered by convection rather than batteries and a fan - using the principle that hot air rises. The images clearly show the hot wood gases meeting the pre-heated air, appearing as jets of yellow flame.

So not only will you never run out of fuel for as long as you can find a few twigs; you'll also never run out of battery power!

Best of all its slightly wider base provides an exceptionally steady cooking support for anything from a survival billycan to a 'family' pot or kettle. Highly recommended. A superb little stove.

Response to 2* Review below: thanks for this feedback. We have received this returned product and it was faulty - the top part had been bent in transit, and therefore would not fit. The pot supports do indeed fold out, but are precision machine-welded on, and are extremely strong and robust for the intended use of 1-2 man cooking. The product has been out of stock due to high demand outstripping supply. It is now back in stock.

Excellent multi use stove.

I bought this stove elsewhere as part of a camping pack, so it came with a saucepan that the stove fits into, a meth cartridge, fire striker, wax paper and a wire saw and small wind guard.I've had the stove for many months now and used it many times, both with the meths cartridge and with sticks and kindling. I am impressed.I initially bought it as a back up, as I generally cook using a campfire and a tripod system, however, this summer has meant campfire cooking has been difficult. This wee stove has meant I've been able to easily and quickly have a hot cupper, make bacon sarnies for breakie, soup for lunch etc.Obviously these type of stoves aren't meant for a gourmet meal, it's one pot cooking ideally for a couple of people, and actually, it performs that function very well indeed. I do not find it particularly flimsy or poorly made, and I love that when packed up, I can also include the fire striker, some wax paper or sawdust to start a fire and the meth canister filled with methylated spirits for those days when there's no dry tinder to be found. The stove its self packs into a wee cotton bag, which, in my case, then fits into the saucepan. Personally I'm impressed how such a small and simple design can preform so well.I have indeed just come back from a week of camping and using this stove most days. Initially I took it for boiling the kettle (using the meth canister), while using my single gas cooker on a morning for brekkie. Alas, a gas canister did not engage properly and set alight, ruining the mechanism. I very nearly went out and bought a replacement. I'm glad I didn't bother. I was camping with my 5yr old son and my friend's 12yr old daughter. Using this stove we enjoyed pancakes, bacon sarnies, sausage sarnies, soup, rice pudding etc. And it boiled my kettle, which incidentally is the red and black enamel one in the pictures.Yes I suppose it is expensive, when you could easily go out and buy a single gas canister type cooker for less than a tenner. It is more versatile than a gas cooker though. This stove can easily be carried around, if out for a day trip hiking, or down at the beach etc, very easy to make a hot drink, or warm up some soup.I recommend this stove a lot; although if you are confident enough to follow instructions on you tube to make something similar, well I guess go ahead. If you want a robust, neat little stove that is versatile, then buy this.

Awesome little stove!

I really love my new woodgas stove. Delivery was quick and it came well packaged. I couldn't believe just how small and compact the whole thing is and how neatly it all fits inside itself for storage.Once assembled it sits steadily on the ground and it is easy to place a pan or kettle on. Very easy to light and in no time at all it is burning hot and virtually smoklessly. Its always easy to find a few small dry twigs and deadwood to burn so no chance of running out of gas or meths.One bonus with this stove is that it wasn't any problem taking this stove through airport security in my hand luggage on a recent flight and it was ready to use as soon as I arrived with no need to buy fuel. Really pleased with mine and would definitely recommend.

Light...easy to use stove with dry wood, can be tricky with damp though. Really pleased with it, yes it is a little pricey but after making a few diy hobo stoves this is just so much better. Virtually smoke free when burning well - can be quite smokey if overloaded or when using damp twigs ect..Not sure how long this will last when being used and abused over time as it is very light and quite flimsy. Highly recommended.

Simply Superb

This is a great little stove and is a definite improvement on the PocketRocket.It's smaller, lighter and uses a great "fold-down" method for the stove/pot legs. The container fits inside the plastic insulated MSR mug I have so that's useful. The flame is a bright blue and boils a litre of water in a couple of minutes. The flame can be easily managed and it's easy to simmer liquids for those who appreciate their gourmet food. On the "crown" of the stove the grille has a triangular divider, this ensures that even in high wind the flame won't blow out... clever eh? I have the MSR Universal Canister Stand which weighs nothing and adds stability, another great MSR product. Simple and stable- the most important qualities of a small stove. Burner head is wide so heats a medium size pot effectively. Seriously question the longevity of the piezo igniter as it seems extremely fragile and is completely unprotected when the stove is folded and in transit. Folded size is not the smallest on the market but for the price is quite good, just pack carefully! Seriously consider buying a canister converter to allow the stove to be used with bayonet fitting cartridges, currently half the price of screw-top cartidges and more widely available in Europe.

It works, I like the fact that it is close to the ground and very stable. I can get some cover round it and it boils a small kettle in a relatively short time.compact, lightweight and does what it is supposed to do.
